Mothers' Union July 2019

Well it's 7.30pm on Thursday 20th June and a good number of us have come together at Hazelwood for our regular Mothers’ Union branch gathering.

We commenced with opening devotions led by Olga with very thoughtful prayers and especial mention of Brenda Fellows, whose brother-in-law had suddenly passed away, and for her continued care of her husband, Roy. We also remembered those who could not be with us for whatever reason and a special mention too, for Audrey, recently moved to Scotland and who is missed.

Glenis gave quite a few notices as we had been busy both as a group and with what is happening in the diocese. She would happily let you know in more detail especially about our outing on July 18 (Thursday) to Butterfly Gardens, we will leave Stonehouse around 10 and return mid-afternoon, with transport available if you would like. There is also a Mothers’ Union Fundraising 'tea' on July 24th in Cirencester - again see/speak to Glenis Abbott for details.

Our speaker this time was June Dolphin who had just arrived back from few days away in Ilfracombe and was getting ready to go off again on 27th June, to Zambia for the Ebenezer Trust for 13 days! June passed around lots of photographs of the children and explained how difficult life was for many of them orphaned - some due to Aids - but good news that 480 had been or were being educated by the Trust, education being the key for their future. During her last trip, June and Hilary (a friend from Northern Ireland) had set up a Library for the children. Glenis thanked her by giving her flowers from Glenis' garden.

After June's talk we shared fellowship whilst drinking tea/coffee and it was an altogether lovely evening ... one that no one wanted to leave and we 'over ran' our normal finish time by quite a while as it was 9.45pm when we finally ended. A delightful evening which I, for one, recommend you try and come along to - everyone is welcome!                     love                Ruth Creighton
