Mothers' Union March 2020

Dear Fellow Members

We had a really interesting talk at our last meeting from Liz Smith, daughter of Glenis, who works in Swindon as an administrator for Palliative care.  Her particular interest is with children and helping them through difficult times with end of life issues, either for themselves or with a relative.  Liz spoke very candidly and sympathetically and gave us a real insight into this valuable work.

We are now in the season of Lent and I hope you are all making a sacrifice of some sort;  whether to pray more, read your bible more, join a lent group, give something up.  So many options to help us focus on Jesus’ journey to the cross.  Please make the most of what is on offer.  Lent groups, and we have four in Stonehouse, are open to all.  Each week stands alone so if you cannot manage all (although that is always best) then just come along to what you can do.

Our next meeting, March 19th, will be at Hazelwood, as usual, and Olga will lead us through a shortened version of the World Day of Prayer Service which will have taken place on 6th March.   Always a very good service.

Later this year (July 18th) we will be having a big fundraising day for AFIA (Away From It All holidays) and we will be selling raffle tickets to promote this and to raise funds.  Members will have been given a book of 5 to sell (£1 each) so I hope you will make the effort for this good cause.  Sell them to neighbours, friends, family – anyone who will buy  – and encourage them to come to the big day event too.  Posters will be going up with more detail.

There is also an opportunity to join a day of quiet at Harn Hill on Wednesday May 6th.  Again this is open to members and non-members.  Just ask Glenis for the details.

Wednesday 25th March is ‘Lady Day’ and there is a communion service at our church at 10am.  All Mothers’ Union Members are encouraged to attend a service on this day so do mark it in your diaries.

Wishing you a good Lent and a Happy Easter,                                with love,               Kay
